Regardless of the circumstances surrounding one’s life – whether one is born to rich or poor families or during times of chaos or times of peace and plenty, whether one has had access to good education growing up, and/or whether one has a good job or not, for instance – people are all equal in the sense that we all have the basic talent and potential to be successful in our own right and in our own way. The difference between everyone, therefore, lies in how these talents have been recognized and utilized, if at all – and, perhaps more importantly, if we have that confidence in ourselves that is so necessary for success.

In his book How to Develop Self-Confidence for Success, inspirational writer P.C. Ganesan unveils his take on what people need to do to become successful. He says that success depends greatly on self-confidence – if one thinks positive thoughts and has confidence in oneself such that one fervently believes that one will go places, one is certain and sure to be a winner. Conversely, if one does not believe in oneself, despite all that one does, one is sure not to go anywhere.

In order to build self-confidence, then, the very first step is get to know oneself intimately – one needs to know exactly what talents one has. And, based on that knowledge, one needs to be able to use these talents so that one will know exactly what one is capable of. These are the basic ingredients of self-confidence, and, therefore, of success in and of itself.

Another key tenet of Ganesan’s is that because the basic component of success is self-confidence, and because self-confidence is attainable by each and every one of us, each of us holds the key to success in our hands – we and we alone can work towards our own success.
