Which board games are best for small children?

I could really use some good advice. I want to start playing board games with my kids as something fun that we can do together in the evenings rather than watch tv. Can anyone tell me which games are best for small children? I am going to buy board games that are a little bit educational as well as fun I think, I want them to have to think a little bit. I will probably buy a mix though. Are there recommendations on a website somewhere that I could check out? There are so many new games out since I was a kid.
