Job transfer = Moving Costs

Just about the time you think your life is settled, you get that job offer of a life time, and you are up and scrambling. Your first thought is go to the computer, you aren’t ready to purchase a home, so you look for rentals. There are several websites, that specialize in finding you a home, some will charge, some are free, but they involve a lot of time spent on the computer. You find the right place, then you have to fill out paper work, background checks, first and last month deposits, everything has to be in the form of cashiers check. The application is accepted, now you have to locate the utility companies for the new house, again deposits, however some of these can be billed to first month bills, [it never hurts to ask.] Finally, your new house, and new job are waiting for you in your new city, now the Moving Costs really start to add up. Do you rent a truck, pack and move yourself, or hire a company to do it for you? My husband and I have been transferred several times, and each time we choose to do it ourselves, but as we have gotten older, we have scaled down to lighter furniture, and a lot less of it. If you choose to do the move yourself, it is a lot less expensive, but again, if you can afford it, hire it done. Another thing to keep in mind, which lots of times you forget to add in, is the cost of gas, and food, and any lodging you may have during the trip, plus if you have more that one car, someone has to drive it. In the long run, if you are faced with a move in your future, make a list of your moving costs, that you encounter and keep receipts, your expenses are tax deductible, but hopefully all your moving costs will be paid by that new company you are going to work for. Good Luck
