CIDER WEARS THE RED AND BLACK SWEATER

My little dog made a place deep in the hearts of all family members as he grew up, including Ma (my mother in law). She likes to wear unique dog costumes. Orthodox and religious , she disapproved of the dog being treated like a family member, while naughty cider left no chance trying to get close to her and would even sneak in her Pooja Room( Prayer room in India is a very sacred place) which was an absolute no for him, but only in her absence. He was surely far too intelligent not to have understood his boundaries; his intelligence could not be doubted as every time he strolled in the Pooja room he made sure no one was around. I made no fuss as I was confident that even if he went in the room he would not touch any Idols or spoil anything, actually I felt he must have been a saint in his previous life, hence went to the prayer room while the poor orthodox old lady rested.
But the climax of that hidden love hate relationship was seen one day as we all returned from the club and found Ma and Cider sitting by the fireplace together late in the evening and Cider was clothed in one of the red and black sweaters of my son. Seeing us Ma gave a shy smile scolding us for leaving cider without his coat on that cold night and though she hated it she had somehow managed to get him into that sleeveless sweater of my son.
