As another source of calcium, does human life actually improve by taking it? Obtained from fossilized coral reefs and depending on the quality, it may also contain varying amounts of trace elements such as manganese. Coral grains are mined or pumped from these beds which exist in shallow waters and then ground into a fine powder. The coral calcium powder is then treated by heating it to 1000oF. Lastly, this powder is either bagged or mixed with an anti-caking agent and bottled for sale. It has since been discovered that this form of calcium also contains undesirable trace elements such as uranium and mercury. This calcium is not only more expensive to purchase, but once taken, those with shellfish allergies may develop allergic reactions.
