Domestic Violence Forces a Wife to Leave Her Abusive Husband

Margaret was a strong person who for the last seven years has had to raise her two daughters and one son by herself. After being married to Frank for just under five years, Margaret asked for a divorce because of alcohol abuse and domestic violence. For the first three or four years of their marriage, Frank seemed to be a regular guy who enjoyed an occasional drink with his buddies. Sure, there were occasional arguments, but what marriage doesn’t have arguments? Around the fourth year of their marriage Frank started drinking heavily. He would come home after drinking and pick a fight over just about anything. One day during an argument that started over what TV program they would watch, Frank got especially mad and hit Margaret. Margaret took her three young children and went to stay with her mother. A number of times Margaret called Frank and told him that as long as he refuses to get alcohol treatment and counseling for his anger, she will stay at her mother’s house. Here it is, seven years later and Frank never did get counseling for his anger or treatment for his drinking problem. Margaret admits that life hasn’t been easy but that she and the children are much happier in a house where there isn’t any kind of abuse.
