Financial fraud defense?

Have you ever heard the term “financial fraud defense“? Is there a defense for financial fraud?

I’m sure in the sense of finding legal defense there is. But is there a legitimate defense for committing financial fraud otherwise?

I heard that term not long ago and it got me to thinking. I can’t think of a single reason why someone would be justified in committing financial fraud. In the old days, you might have been able to plead hunger or some sort of poverty, but these days, you could not commit financial fraud if you were not in some sort of position to make money. Now, the poor who could possibly have a defense for breaking the law in such a way - can’t get such jobs; and, if they did, they wouldn’t need to!
