Afternoon of drinking results in fatal motor vehicle accident

In this motor vehicle accident one person lost his life and another suffered serious injuries due to the actions of a drunk driver.  The accident occurred when a man driving a truck hit an elderly couple in a minivan coming the other way.  The driver of the truck had been with friends drinking combinations of tequila shots, spiced rum, and beer since around 3:30 the afternoon of the accident.  There were reports that he had been smoking marijuana as well.  He left his friends shortly prior to 7:45 pm.  The accident occurred at approximately 8:00 pm.  He was seen just before the accident weaving from side to side while driving “at a high rate of speed.”  The driver of the minivan, 81, died as a result of the accident.  His wife, 77, sustained a leg fracture, a dislocated elbow, and spent two weeks in a coma.  My thoughts and prayers are with the surviving wife and her family.
