Screw or stick number plates?

The traditional means of fixing number plates to the vehicle is by means of self tapping screws. This reduces the life of the plates as rainwater ingresses between the acrylic and reflective and separates the two. The resultants black marks will result in an Mot test failure. Modern cars have pre-formed plastic bumpers which are ideally suited to sticking the number plates on with double sided tape. Perhaps the best solution though is to use a plate holder which is screwed to the car and the number plate is locked into the holder, this would seem to be the only viable solution.
